Love your analysis, we need more lists 😫
The Shogun's killer is the best of the best
Arty
The British film reviewer Mark Kermode said that he didn't like the film at all on first viewing, but later admitted that he wasn't ready for it. I watched a re-release of it in a cinema several years ago on a viewing that was full of students - they didn't get it either and thought and seemed to think it was a comedy more than anything. Once you get it, it's a masterpiece and it fully deserves an analysis such as this. In some ways it's the prototype for Twin Peaks, and it's also one of Lynch's best movies.
Amazing, thank so much for this video, please keep creating such inspiring content!!
Lame anti-modern art grift lol
Incredibly educated list, I respect all his choice and probably personally have at least 1/4 in my own top 30 oat!
high quality youtube
Really had high hope or this list... especially seeing Mirror, Ordet, Tokyo Story, Andrei Rublev, Fanny & Alexander... but I can't believe some of the entries... The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a cheesy movie I can't condone, Spirited Away you claimed was about a girl trying to find her place in the world lol. It's not remotely about that. As Miyazaki himself said in interviews he has some friends about that age, 10, and wanted to make a movie they could enjoy. It's basically Miyazaki's idea of what kids enjoy, and that's why it feels like a tour through a mystical fantasy world without much of a real story, or deeper meaning. It's a dumb pointless movie if you ask me. Your number 1 & 2 being the Godfather was such a massive letdown. You didn't mention so many great masters of cinema like Mizoguchi and Kalatozov. You don't even have a single Godard or Wong Kar Wai? Like what about The Cranes Are Flying, Sansho the bailiff, Vivre Sa Vie, or Fallen Angels? And Love Exposure is not one of Sion Sono's best movies. Himizu and Noriko's Dinner Table are far superior. Love Exposure again has terrible cringey bad acting. You seem to like a lot of movies with bad acting. I just tried to watch Mulholland Dr. And man was the acting ever terrible, like not just the extras, but even the leads were wooden. It was very play-like, and made me cringe non-stop.
🤓
ran is my favourite. possibly even my favourite japanes movie. love this video and this format!!
.
This is definitely one of my all time favorite video essays, I’ve relistened to this dozens of times. Will continue elevate my reference
Hey man excellent job I watched this multiple times. Very grateful to your talent and for sharing it
in conclusion: he coocked before there was a kitchen
Favorite short films?
Spirit Of The Beehive...
You guys, the makers of this essay and commenters, are my spiritual family. Does anyone know where I can search for a piece I once saw on public television back in the 80's? It was an art film with short vignettes of a boy and his imagination reaching beyond the humdrum of his house, father and mother, who seemed to be in a trance. A colorful film or video, that features unique electronic music throughout, and if I recall correctly, may have involved some alien intervention or at least alien things conjured from the boy's imagination. I have tracked down a few other videos like this using the internet, but this one still eludes me.
It's been a year already
Good Discussion... 😃💖
Wonderful... 👍🏾✨ Informative... 😃😍❤️

Man With a Movie Camera desperately needs to be on this list, along with For All Mankind.
❤😅😅😅
Thank you Excellent.
Whats the piano song at the end
I agree that a lot of people don’t even put thought into their art. But some modern art is pretty good though (for instance, graffiti, some are pretty thought provoking). I feel like the video fails to know who to blame, there’s also capitalism into the mix as well as some other factors.
The quality of the content and images is beyond question, all very professional and well done. But the moment you make a documentary you have to give the viewer breaks, you can't not break from one topic to another, maybe with music or just simple images. You can't hold the attention for 40 minutes without a moment of pause
Please, please create new videos for your fans. With 3 months since this video you definitely have me fearing the worst.
#2 Santantango. Was very eager to watch, but it's 7 hours long! How does that even count as a movie?!
1. Once upon a time in America 2. The Godfather Part 1+2 3. One flew over the Cuckoosnest 4. There will be blood 5. The good, the Bad and the Ugly 6. Come and See 7. Deer Hunter 8. Oldboy 9. Heat 10. Raiders of the Lost Ark Close call: Apocalypse Now, Barry Lyndon, Empire Strikes Back, Alien and Goodfellas
A very fun video indeed.
oh de su
Horrible spoilers!!!
This is rich, deep and important document to introduce (me for one) to some Great cinema. The themes are important and the appropriation of creative innovation by the mechanics of power remains a key problem for human survival, in the context of the role of capitalism in our multifold contemporary crises.
21:08 what is this gnarly looking movie? With the japanese demon?
I really enjoyed Jeanne Dielman and I didn't think I would. Left an impression on me for days afterwards.
Cross analyze, compare and contrast with how faces (real or not) in memes are treated
Great video
Unironically this is one of the best video essays on youtube.
После сатанинского танго, нет смысла смотреть какие то еще фильмы, или читать книги, или заниматься какой либо деятельностью вообще
I _really_ hope Criterion has RAN in the works for a blu/4k release with all the trimmin's, because it is baffling that there's no such release yet. (Same with Welles' OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND, another genius's late-career masterpiece.) Also I think I'm in love.
game at 21:29 and 23:47?
ok bro we get it, u r a purist and the most high iq person in the world. and we filthy have no artistic braindeadness to understand these boring ass movies. its just nostalgia and movies that tried to do something different bt not always entertaining..
🤡
In 2012 I made a short experimental noir. You may find it amusing. Bum Rap Andre Hunt ruclips.net/video/CwQ84VaeJ-s/видео.htmlsi=abS4YgnCAkVcY2Ir
